Celebrate Dad with Father’s Day Cocktails
Father’s Day is coming up! Celebrate the fathers in your life with a special drink provided by the Tower Bar staff. We’ve got twists on the Old Fashioned and the Margarita, or perhaps Dad just wants a simple scotch drink—we’ve got a recommendation for that, too! Find the recipes below, and get to know a little backstory behind each cocktail as the bartenders share stories of their dads.
A Good Scotch, Some Water Drops, and A Lot of Stories
Recipe by Campbell Barker; Submitted by Jena Barker, Momentary Beverage Manager
My dad is the best storyteller, and I’m not the only one who thinks so. Friends ask him to repeat stories over and over again, and always act as if they’ve never heard them before. Generally, they’re stories about history, twists of fate, and his own vivid recollections of growing up. And with every great story comes a fresh scotch, poured neat, of course. As he will tell you, there is a right way to prepare a neat cocktail. Here’s how it’s done:
Ingredients
- 2 oz Macallan 18 year, or other quality single malt scotch
- A few drops of purified water
Instructions
The scotch and the glass should be at room temperature. Hold the scotch bottle approximately 2 inches above the serving glass, and pour 2 ounces directly into the glass. Gently add a few drops of purified water across the top of the scotch to open up the aromas and flavors. Serve.
Brent’s Old Fashioned
Recipe by Kelsey Harrington, Tower Bar Server
This Father’s Day cocktail was made in honor of the number one dad, my life partner. He is the spider killer and monster chaser. He is the heart of the laughter that vibrates our home. He is our foundation―why shouldn’t he have his own cocktail? I chose the Old Fashioned because his values are just that, but this recipe has a twist because he’s a young and hip dad. Happy Father’s Day to all you fantastic fathers!

Dad’s Tropical Margarita
Recipe by Courtney King, Tower Bar Server
I have always been close to my dad. I’ve been told we look alike and even share the same smile. It makes me quite proud when I think about my dad—his determination, accomplishments, and loving example. Each year, my dad would take us on a camping trip. I share so many fun memories with my siblings because of these family vacations. The trip became even more special the year that dad decided that everyone was going to take a turn cooking. We divided up the meals and each of us took our moment to shine. We all love to cook and we love to eat and drink even more, so this was a fun experience for us. This recipe for a Tropical Margarita reminds me of these experiences. It encompasses the comforting flavors of rum with a mix of the tropical vacations that my dad loves to take. I’m looking forward to many more. I love you, Dad!
