As part of Crystal Bridges and the Momentary’s cross-campus Wellness Festival, you’re invited to take a break from your usual Friday routine with a day of drop-in wellness workshops, talks, food demos, a farm-to-table lunch, and more.
Take in the latest in the fields of arts and wellness with sessions including:

- an introduction to the many mission-driven organizations within Art and Wellness Enterprises (including the Momentary!)
- a talk and activation by Innerworld CEO and Founder Noah Robinson

Those wanting to get a unique taste of what’s in store can also reserve tickets for a seasonal, farm-to-table lunch experience by Chef Cooper and Spring Creek Food Hub, served al fresco in the North Courtyard’s Quonset Hut. (Additional ticket purchase required.)

Your Brain on Art: Author Talk and Book Signing by Susan Magsamen

Discover the transformative power of the arts on our brains and bodies. Join author Susan Magsamen and a special guest moderator as they delve into the science of neuroaesthetics in her new book, Your Brain on Art. We’ll explore how the arts can enhance our health, promote flourishing lives, and strengthen communities as a panel of experts share insights and anecdotes on the profound impact of art on our well-being. Following the discussion, join us for a book signing with the author.
JEWEL’S INNERWORLD: A CONVERSATION ON USING THE METAVERSE TO SCALE MENTAL HEALTH INTERVENTION WITH CEO NOAH ROBINSON

This experience features Innerworld founder & CEO Noah Robinson discussing the use of avatar-based group support in virtual worlds to scale access to mental health intervention. You’ll discover how Innerworld’s unique approach addresses the mental health crisis by combining evidence-based tools with the immersive experience of social virtual worlds.
Farm-to-Table Lunch Experience

Chef Matthew Cooper and team will work with the operators of Spring Creek Food Hub to source and prepare the most seasonal, local products available for this exclusive, farm-to-table lunch for 200, served al fresco in the Momentary’s Quonset Hut.

Food Demos with Chef Matthew Cooper
2:15 – 3:15 PM | RØDE House
Join Chef Matthew Cooper of Conifer as he works with seasonal produce from Spring Creek Food Hub and Fat Top Farms to illustrate how you can identify local food sources in your communities and demonstrate how to prepare delicious dishes with local products.
You’ll watch as Chef Cooper prepares one to two dishes during the session and receive sample recipes to recreate your own farm-to-table meals at home!
AI’s Role in Advancing Whole Health Presented by Mercy Health

Panelists will discuss Mercy’s artificial intelligence journey over the past decade and its benefits on patient experience, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency. The many types of AI in use at Mercy both enable and augment the ability of its caregivers to serve – freeing them up to focus on spending more time with those Mercy is privileged to care for, improving patient experience, easing administrative burden, and improving operational efficiency.

About the Speakers
Susan Magsamen
Susan Magsamen is the founder and executive director of the International Arts + Mind Lab Center for Applied Neuroaesthetics (IAM Lab) which is part of the Pedersen Brain Science Institute of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she is a faculty member in the Department of Neurology. At the intersection of science and the arts, for more than 40 years, her work incorporates academic research and other ways of knowing to inform the design and implementation of arts-based programs and products to improve health, well-being, and learning. She is also co-director of the Neuroarts Blueprint: Advancing the Science of Arts, Health and Well-Being, a collaboration between the Johns Hopkins International Arts + Mind Lab and the Aspen Institute’s Health, Medicine and Society Program.
Susan has worked in both the public and private sectors on initiatives addressing early childhood development, physical and mental health, playful learning, workforce innovation, family engagement, aging, creativity, social justice, and under-resourced communities through the lens of the arts. She is the creator of the Impact Thinking translational framework, developed to advance effective interdisciplinary practices and approaches using the arts and aesthetics. She serves on the advisory boards of Creating Healthy Communities: Arts and Public Health, an initiative working to support public health applications of arts-based programs; the EpiLab at the University of Florida; the American Neuroscientists for Architecture (ANFA); Brain Future; Playful Learning Landscapes Action Network; and The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s education council. Additional advisory roles include the Science of Learning Institute at Johns Hopkins, First Book, Brookings Institution, the Clinton Global Initiative, and Sylvan Learning. Susan is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, American Psychological Association, the National Organization for Arts and Health, and the Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities. She is also a Royal Society of the Arts Fellow.
Susan served as guest editor of Child Art, the journal of the International Child Art Foundation, for a special edition called Your Brain on Art. She is also the co-host of The Arts + Mind Village Webinar Series, and a co-author of Creating Health Community Through Cross-Sector Collaborations. Additionally, she has published a range of peer-reviewed articles on the role of the arts in health and wellbeing including “The Aesthetic Brain: A Growing Case for the Arts”, in Cerebrum, a Dana Foundation journal.
In 2014, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) acquired Curiosityville, an online personalized learning world Susan founded. She was named senior vice president of Global Learning Sciences at HMH, where she developed a global learning strategy for children, families, and childcare providers. She is also the creator of Curiosity Kits, a hands-on, multisensory learning company acquired by Torstar in 1995. Under Susan’s leadership, Curiosity Kits expanded from children’s educational arts programs into the health and wellness sector. She created more than 600 arts-learning programs and products in the arts, sciences, and world cultures for children and adults at home and in institutional settings.
Author of a number of books for children and families, Susan’s body of work includes The Classic Treasury of Childhood Wonder and Family Stories (Random House, 2010) and The 10 Best of Everything Families (National Geographic, 2009). She was also the author of Family Stories, a five-part series that included Nighty Night, Tooth Fairy Times, My Two Homes, Family Night, and Making Spirits Bright (Barnes & Noble, 2007).
Jewel
Jewel is a four-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, visual artist, actress, New York Times best-selling author, and mental health pioneer. Best-known for her musical talents, Jewel’s passion and training in sculpture, drawing, and painting began before her songwriting career. Over the years, she has continued creating, working with paint and clay.
In spring 2024, Jewel will make her debut in the art world at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas with The Portal: An Art Experience by Jewel, featuring her own painting and sculpture. Throughout her art, Jewel combines her passions for storytelling, experimentation and democratizing mental health. For the past 21 years, Jewel’s Inspiring Children Foundation and Jewel Inc. have brought specially-designed mental health programs to at-risk youth and to leading corporations.
Jewel created SELLA, a language arts curriculum for schools integrating social and emotional learning and mental health practices, and recently co-founded Innerworld, an innovative virtual mental health platform.
Jewel’s remarkable journey has taken her from a childhood with no running water on an Alaskan homestead to becoming a multi-platinum recording artist and mental health advocate. She has released 13 studio albums, including her latest release Freewheelin’ Woman, and will embark on a national co-headlining tour with Melissa Etheridge this summer.
Matthew Cooper
Matthew Cooper was born and raised in Arkansas with a family steeped in food and community building. His mother’s side of the family were food technologists and educators, his grandfather was one of the founders of the food technology program at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Matthew attended Le Cordon Bleu in the Pacific Northwest, learning the importance of farm-to-table dining in the region. He then returned to Arkansas to connect with local farmers and dive into teaching and building restaurants.
Some of Matthew’s projects have been was creating the atmosphere, food, and relationships with local farmers while at The Preacher’s Son and most recently, opening Conifer in 2022. Since opening, Conifer has been recognized as a 2024 James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef South and listed as #2 on Southern Living‘s “The South’s Best New Restaurants.”. Matthew prioritizes his family both in and out of work, where he spends time with his wife of over 20 years, Priscilla, their daughter, and two dogs.
